Alison Blake

Through these raw black and white charcoal drawings, I portray female icons whose voices resonate beyond their art. My work explores the power of women who challenge boundaries, break stereotypes, and advance equality. The women I depict embody vulnerability and passion, representing a revolutionary spirit of those who defy the norms placed upon them. Drawing inspiration from the old masters, I employ classical techniques to create a dialogue between the past and the present, merging traditional artistry with contemporary themes. Each stroke of charcoal captures wild, creative energy as they confront the constraints of gender roles, sexuality, and visibility. My art stands as a tribute to the courage of women who exist boldly, unapologetically, and in ways that inspire others to do the same.

I am an artist, illustrator and graphic designer. Originally from San Francisco, I have also lived in Boston & New York. I have a BFA in Illustration from California College of Art and an MFA in Design Entrepreneurship from School of Visual Arts. I currently live in Truro and work at my studio at The Commons Annex in Provincetown.
